Iwa-enogu is a traditional Japanese pigment made by crushing natural minerals. It arrived in Japan more than 1,400 years ago, and its colors have lasted for centuries on temple walls and paintings without fading. Mizuasagi is a soft, pale blue-green, the color of shallow water. For this dial, the pigment is ground from amazonite, a blue-green mineral.

Over the pigment, fine flakes of mizu-kinpaku are scattered by hand. Mizu-kinpaku is a leaf made of gold and silver in equal parts, which gives it a bright gold with a faint, cool blue tint. Against the rough, grainy surface of the pigment, the tiny flakes catch the light and sparkle delicately, so the watch wears more like a piece of jewelry.

The pigment is brushed on layer after layer at a workshop in Kanazawa, and the hour markers are gold leaf on washi paper, placed by hand with the tip of a fine brush. Every watch is made to order, one at a time. Available in ladies size only.
